Emergency Department

The Emergency Department will be relocated into the new wing, replacing the existing 50-year-old Emergency. It will grow to 18 beds and include:

  • A separate soundproof pediatric procedure room
  • A gynaecology room with its own private washroom
  • Separate entrances for ambulance and walk-in patients
  • An isolation room that meets all public health standards for infectious diseases
  • A private triage where patients are initially assessed.

Beds will be configured around two nursing stations to allow staff to maintain visual contact. This will:

  • Improve staff ability to monitor serious (cardiac) patients
  • Decrease number of trips “up and down the hallway”

The Emergency Department benefits all of the Region:

  • Stroke bypass (for access to Stratford's CT Scanner)
  • Complex patients from other Hospital Emergency Departments are routinely transferred to Stratford General Emerg
  • Patients throughout the region access Stratford General's specialists through our Emerg
