Medical Imaging/PACS

The Medical Imaging Unit will be expanded and relocated to be close to the Emergency, Intensive Care and Operating Rooms, reducing delays and helping patient flow.

PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System) moves Radiology into the electronic world with no more film. PACS revolutionizes the storage, retrieval, distribution and display of medical images. PACS is like trading in your old 35 mm film camera for a digital camera — pictures can be taken instantly without waiting for them to be developed — and just like photos on a digital camera you can send images to others via computer.

PACS Facts:

  • PACS will increase efficiency by some 30 percent — benefits both technicians and patients.
  • Images can be manipulated electronically and are available within seconds of being done — CT, x-ray or ultrasound.
  • Earlier images can be compared to fresh images on the screen to see if there is a change in patient's condition.
  • Images are available to multiple viewers in different locations at the same time.
  • Eliminates the need for films that can be at the wrong site at the wrong time or need to be couriered/delivered.
  • PACS will be helpful in attracting and retaining doctors and radiologists — essential for a healthy community.
